I started touring in 2005, when I was offered the opportunity to go on the road with James Taylor as Lighting Director and Crew Chief for his fantastic "One Man Band" tour. Little did I know then that it would be the start of the longest, and most enjoyable professional relationship of my career. The initial, theatre tour was designed by Chris Dallos, and then later saw a re-design for a short arena run by the amazing Tom Kenny. The tour also saw a third incarnation, overseen by Bob Dickinson when it was filmed for a live, Grammy nominated DVD release - which also saw broadcast as part of the PBS Great Performances series. Getting to work with three amazing designers, and see how each of them approached the same material was an amazing experience.

In 2010 I began to work with 80's synth legend Howard Jones, designing tours in the US, UK, Australia and Japan, including designing a co-headlining tour with Howard and Andy Bell of Erasure. This culminated in 2013 with the design for Howard's 30th anniversary "Engage" tour. Other tours during this period include a run as FoH tech for Iron Maiden's 2010 "Final Frontier" tour (for LD Rob Coleman), and programing and operating a series of one-off and festival shows with the inimitable Grace Jones (for LD Mike Gunning). I also sub'ed in for regular LD Stuart Farrell for a couple of US and South American tours with Jake Bugg, and designed and operated a short US club tour with UK band Lush, while continuing to tour with James Taylor throughout.

The second half of 2017 saw the start of a new tour cycle with James Taylor, and a new design collaboration for me, as the design team from Fireplay (lead by the excellent Nick Whitehouse) was brought on board to provide show direction, video and production design. I collaborated with the Fireplay team on the lighting design, and programmed and operated the lights and video content for the tour. Sadly by this point Bryan Leitch had retired due to poor health, and left us all deeply saddened when he passed away in 2019.

Along with support from Bonnie Raitt, James toured the US and Canada. Continuing in 2018, we also played shows in the US, UK and Italy, including very special shows in the ancient Roman amphitheater in Pompeii, and at the Caracalla bathes in Rome.

I spent 2018 bouncing between James Taylor and the Pretenders, who began the year touring stadiums in South America with Phil Collins, before playing a short solo tour in the US. After spending the summer with James, I rejoined the Pretenders in the autumn, for a UK tour co-headlining with Simple Minds.

2020 was supposed to have been a return to bouncing between James Taylor and the Pretenders, with tours scheduled in the US and Australia, before Covid-19 shut down our entire industry, and put everything on pause. When shows finally seemed to be possible again, in the latter half of 2021, James and his band were eager to get back out on the road, and we were able to mount a successful late summer/fall run through the US, along with special guest Jackson Browne. Once again, this design was a collaboration between myself and Nick Whitehouse of Fireplay. Fireplay also provided the overall production design/creative direction, and video design in collaboration with Olivia Sebesky. This spring will see the continuation of this tour, starting with a month of re-scheduled dates across Canada, and continuing back in the US throughout the Summer, with planned dates in Europe scheduled for the Fall.

The One Man Band tour was followed by a series of tours with James, working with designer Bryan Leitch, first as Lighting Director and Programmer, and eventually as co-designer. In addition to being a wonderful designer, Bryan was an incredibly enthusiastic supporter of young designers just getting their start in the industry, and through his very kind support and recommendations I was given the opportunity to design some smaller tours of my own. These included Club and Theatre tours in the US with Editors and Duffy (the second of which also included a number of dates opening for Coldplay's 2008 Arena tour), and a European festival tour with the British band JAMES.

In 2016 I also began working with the Pretenders, which has turned into another incredibly enjoyable ongoing relationship. We started with a run supporting Stevie Nicks' 2016-17 arena tour of the US, Australia and New Zealand, where I designed a floor package and backdrop to supplement the fixtures we were able to use in the Stevie Nicks rig (designed by Paul Guthrie), and which could also work with house rigs in the clubs and theatre where we also played solo shows in amongst the Stevie dates. 2017 also saw a solo tour of the UK, and one-off shows in Israel and the Middle East. Meanwhile James Taylor was finishing up a tour cycle that started in 2015 that covered arenas and several stadium shows in the US, along with arena and festival shows in the UK and Europe, and ending with shows in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong. Highlights of that tour included shows in Fenway Park, Wriggley Field, The Hollywood Bowl, and Red Rocks amphitheater in Colorado.

2019 saw more alternating between James Taylor and the Pretenders, starting with more US dates with Bonnie Raitt, and then in April James played a 12 show residency at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. This was followed by a short run with the Pretenders in the UK and Europe, playing festival shows, and also supporting Fleetwood Mac's European dates. A return to the US saw James Taylor's annual July 4th shows at Tanglewood in Massachusetts, and a couple of private performances with the Pretenders.

Autumn brought a change, when I joined a new tour as Lighting Director for Sara Bareilles' Amidst the Chaos tour, also lighting the opening performer, Emily King. The lighting for the tour was designed and programed by Eric Marchwinski, along with production design by Jason Sherwood, and it played arenas and amphitheaters throughout the US including sellout shows at Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl. I continue to be amazingly lucky to work with artists and crews of such talent and genuine kindness, and this tour was no exception.
